Speaker: Dr. Jiawei Li (Shopify)

Abstract: Shopify is one of the most data-driven tech companies. We leverage data analytics in many important decisions we make and in helping our merchants manage their businesses. Our data scientists have various academic backgrounds, from traditional disciplines (computer science, mathematics, physics, business analytics) to non-traditional ones (video game rule design, geography, engineering, entrepreneurship, politics). In this talk I will talk about how I became a data scientist at Shopify, what the daily life is like as a data scientist and what we are looking for.

Bio: Jiawei is currently Data Scientist in the Shopify International team and previously worked as senior financial engineer at IBM Algo Managed Data Service. She graduated with a PhD in mathematics, an MA in applied math and a Graduate Diploma in Financial Engineering from York University and a BSc in Science from University Roosevelt College at Utrecht University in the Netherlands.

Sacha Adkins, Shopify’s Campus Recruitment Expert, will also be present and talk about the internship and job opportunities at Shopify.
